Military policy on wedding rings... [Mar. 29th, 2011|01:55 am]
SGA Reference

Hey, everyone. :)

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the military policy is on wedding rings. Are soldiers allowed to/able to wear them with their uniforms while on duty (especially in combat zones like Atlantis)? Or are wedding rings discouraged because they might be lost or become a distraction? Is it up to the soldiers to decide?

I'd appreciate any help you can give me. :)

Thank you in advance!

Mind control! [Sep. 12th, 2010|03:13 am]
SGA Reference

... well, sort of.

What indication does canon give, if any, that anything can be done by mental control in Atlantis?

For example, in fics, John is forever locking doors, unlocking doors, adjusting room temperatures, and operating showers with just a thought.

In canon, I know that the jumpers present equipment/displays based on the clear intent of gene holders (often a stated desire or indication). I know that all sorts of areas lit up and doors opened when the expedition first arrived, implying (the advanced Ancient equivalent of) motion sensors; in "Hot Zone", the city's quarantine protocol exercised greater control over doors, only permitting them to open for biohazard-suited personnel. And there's the ability to initialize systems, which seems to require the gene, touch, and an intent to activate (see the chair or Rodney's personal protection device).

Is the whole mental control thing supported in canon, a wild extrapolation of the jumpers, or pure fanon?

Hello and Help! [Aug. 10th, 2010|03:08 pm]
SGA Reference

I'm about to do a dissertation on Stargate Atlantis and it's potrayal of race and gender because I don't think that I'm already unemployable enough. I was wondering if anyone might know the answer to the following as my googlefu is failing:

1. In what episodes does John Sheppard end up crashing to his knees because a Wraith walked into the room? I have Rising, Broken Ties and Submersion, but wasn't sure whether there were any other moments.

2. Are the original casting sides available for the SGA characters, especially for when they first cast the roles for the beginning of the show?

3. Are there any casting sides available for the female characters for the all-female team Whispers horror episode?

4. There is conflicting reports on the net - some suggest they had already cast an actor for Ingram (who would eventually become McKay) but they didn't work out, some are saying that no one was ever hired. The producers stated that they were looking for an African American actor to take on that role - if there was an actor hired were they African American, and is there a name floating about?

Thanks for any help with these!

Wraith Queen episode question [Apr. 13th, 2010|01:35 am]
SGA Reference

I'm working on this vid, and I'm having trouble figuring out in which episodes Sheppard gets captured/questioned by Wraith Queens. I've got the Pilot, and Submerged, but I'm certain there were at least two more. Any ideas? Thanks!!!

Question about the Gene [Mar. 15th, 2010|08:15 pm]
SGA Reference

I've looked on various wiki's, but I can't find a yes or no on whether or not Keller has the gene.

Does anyone know? Wouldn't she have too, to use most of the fancy Ancient med tech?

Question About Vegas [Sep. 5th, 2009|11:12 am]
SGA Reference
Does anyone know the make/model of the car Sheppard drives in Vegas? I've been poring over screencaps all morning but have been unable to find any discernable markings on either the front or the back of the vehicle. Thanks for any info anyone might have!

Information found! Thank you!!!

More graphics information [Aug. 11th, 2009|03:58 pm]
SGA Reference

Last month I put up some graphics from the MGM site that appear to be no longer available. During the last few days I've added more seasons and moved the section (as it was too big to stay where I had originally put it). This does mean that the previous link no longer works, so if you bookmarked it you need to replace it with the new link. Sorry about that. I have updated my previous post's link as well.

Anyway, what I've done is go through the Production and Photo sections on ALL of the official DVDs and screencapped most of the graphics and a handful of photos - hence the new section to accomodate them all! Check it out here if you're interested or think you might find it useful to know what the wanted posters' photos from 'Coup D'Etat' looked like (Rodney appears to be picking his nose!), or a decent shot of Rodney's flag from 'The Game', or certain paintings ('The Game' and 'Harmony'), or the mining platform from 'Submersion' - or a myriad other items and places!!! *g*

Have fun!

Production Stills and Schematics [Jul. 16th, 2009|10:43 am]
SGA Reference

Since MGM revamped their Stargate site, the production stills and schematics that used to be there have disappeared. I saved most of them to my computer and have posted them on my website here for those who are interested. The schematics are probably of most interest to fanfic writers.

There are more production stills, on set photos etc on various sites, and I have posted webpages that share the links to those pics (there are far too many for me to repost, and while they are available on these sites I feel it would be wrong to do so anyway). For SGA, these can be accessed via this page. Check out my SG1 and teeny tiny SGU section for photos relating to those shows (by going to the home page and following the links).

I hope these are useful to people. I do have some other fanfic useful info here, but some of it is incomplete at this time.

Mess hall, commissary or something else... [Jun. 26th, 2009|06:02 pm]
SGA Reference

I know that on Atlantis the food area is usually referred to as the mess hall, but what about the same area at the SGC? It's for a couple of Atlantis fics (one published, one in editing). GateWorld refers to it as the commissary, but someone left a comment (on the published one, of course!) to say that American military officers would call it the mess (I had accidentally used the more British term canteen, having forgotten to look it up - which I had meant to do!).

Does anyone know if it's mentioned by name in an SG1 episode? I can't find transcripts for all SG1 episodes, and even if I could, that's an awful lot of episodes to go through!

If it helps, the first story has John referring to the food area, so I guess I could get away with the Atlantis term (maybe?). The second story has Daniel referring to it.

Btw, does anyone know of an SG1 version of this comm? I can't find one on LJ, but maybe I missed it somewhere.

(no subject) [Jun. 19th, 2009|08:53 pm]
SGA Reference

Hi. I'm compiling a list of episodes that non-team members appear in, along with their locations during the episode (Atlantis, Planet (name if given), Daedalus etc and so on). I'm hoping to expand into other info (personal data, injuries) at a later date, and to expand into team members as well.

For the moment, I have a few questions (under the cut due to length of post). I will credit the help given here via a link to this post and comments from my webpage.

QuestionsCollapse )

EDIT: I've found the information now, thanks to ryf and Stargate Wiki.
